Storm Damage: What To Do in the First Hour

First: assume every downed line is live and stay far away from it. If a tree is touching power lines, call your utility before you call us. Nothing else happens until that's clear.

Second: get people and vehicles out of the area, including out from under limbs that are hung up but not down. Those are the most dangerous pieces on the property.

Third: photograph everything from multiple angles before any cleanup, including damage to structures, fences, and vehicles. Insurers ask for it, and it's much easier to take photos now than to argue later.

Fourth: call a crew with the rigging to take weight off a structure in a controlled way. Cutting a loaded limb in the wrong order shifts the load and does more damage than the storm did.
